Introducing the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Laptop
The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Laptop is the latest high-performance graphics card designed specifically for high-end laptops. This new GPU is part of the X80 series, with the GeForce RTX 4090 set to be the top-of-the-line option in the X90 series next year.
This marks the first time that an X80 series GPU will be the top-of-the-line option, as previously the X70 series held this position. This is a significant development for laptop gaming, as it means that users will be able to experience even better graphics and performance on their portable devices.
Specifications and Performance of the GeForce RTX 4080 Laptop
According to benchmarking software Geekbench, the GeForce RTX 4080 Laptop was tested on a new generation laptop, the Acer Predator PH16-71, with an Intel Core i9-13900HK processor featuring 24 cores and 32 threads running at a base/turbo frequency of 2.20/4.50 GHz, and 32 GB of DDR5 RAM.
The GPU itself has 58 Compute Units, equivalent to 7,424 CUDA Cores, which achieved a Turbo frequency of 2,010 MHz.
It is also equipped with 12 GB of VRAM GDDR6. In terms of performance, this resulted in a score of 178,038 points in the OpenCL benchmark, a 30% increase over the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti (which also has 7,424 CUDA Cores but uses the Ampere architecture) and a 42% increase over the GeForce RTX 3080 (which has 6,144 CUDA Cores) in the same benchmark.
In comparison to a desktop GPU, it is slightly slower than its desktop counterpart, which scores 181,771 points (a 2% improvement).
This difference in performance could potentially be higher, as the chip is expected to reach 2.28 GHz, but will depend on the cooling of the laptop.
One of the standout features of the GeForce RTX 4080 Laptop is its support for real-time ray tracing, a cutting-edge technology that allows for more realistic lighting and shadows in games and other applications. This means that users can expect even more immersive and visually stunning experiences on their laptops.
In addition, the GPU also supports DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling), which uses artificial intelligence to improve the image quality and performance of games. These features, combined with the high CUDA Core count and fast VRAM, make the GeForce RTX 4080 Laptop a formidable option for gaming and other resource-intensive tasks.
