Samsung’s New 990 Pro SSD

The new 990 Pro m.2 nvme SSD from Samsung is said to have a big performance boost over the 980 Pro. Gen 4 SSDs are supposed to be the best, but Samsung‘s latest model wasn‘t as good as some of its competitors. With this new 990 Pro, Samsung should get back to the top.

Samsung‘s New 990 Pro: A Solid State Drive That Finally Delivers

There are two capacities available for the 990 Pro: one terabyte and two terabytes. Next year, there‘ll be a four–terabyte version. The 990 Pro has a gen 4x4 NVMe SSD, DRAM cache, SLC caching, a five–year warranty, and Samsung continues to support hardware encryption. Samsung designed and built both the controller and the memory for the 990 Pro.

Taking a look at the performance, however, is another story. The first benchmark is PC Mark 10 Quick Benchmark. This is a collection of tests that mimic each and every little thing we do every single day with our computers. Documents, photos, and games are among those things. Based on the results, Samsung was right about the performance increase.

Samsung‘s new 990 Pro is the fastest consumer SSD

In comparison to the WD SN850 and Kingston KC 3000, the 990 Pro outperformed every other SSD tested by a wide margin. Now let‘s look at the more intense PC Mark 10 Suite test, which simulates a more serious and constant use of your system. In terms of performance, the Sn850x isn‘t too far behind the 990 Pro at about nine percent.

Samsung claimed the 990 Pro would be 50% faster than the 980 Pro. In almost every relevant Benchmark, latency has a significant impact. Here, the 990 Pro performs extremely well. On a very, very fast test bench, it easily beat the sn770, which has a big latency advantage due to its host memory buffer.

The Best SSDs for Gaming

The majority of you aren‘t affected by this. Nonetheless, this is awesome news for those who have niche applications that cause extreme SSD workloads. A lot of gaming–related tasks are included in the 3dmark storage test. As we continue our look at loading games, installing games, recording gameplay, and relocating games, we will discuss things like loading, installing, and moving games.

Those who are primarily going to use this drive for gaming will find this test to be very balanced. In this test, the Samsung 990 Pro does quite well, landing on the fourth spot. Compared to the 980 Pro, it showed a pretty significant improvement in performance.

However, when it comes to gaming workloads specifically, the SN850X is actually faster.
